Madrone
Bowl
125
mm diameter, 75 mm high
5” x 3”

shrunk and got partially a leather-like surface.
Moor
Oak Bowl
Large
diameter 300 mm
Small diameter 250 mm
high 75 mm
11 3/4” or 9 3/4” x 2”
Finish: Wax
A good example of wood shrinking while drying. As the round cut
blank was totally wet when it was bought, it was protected with
wax and covered with wood chips and saw dust against fast drying.
After two years, the blank was dry but shrunk to an oval. When
turned , the shape of the bowl was kept as it was, and it was
just sanded clean.
Myrtle
Burl Bowl
410
mm diameter, 210 mm high
16” x 8 1/4”
Finish: Danish Oil
Since this burl had a very interesting “mountainous” surface,
I kept the wall with about 70 mm (2 3/4”) very thick, to keep
as much of the burl as possible.
Pear
Tree Bowl
260
mm diameter, 45 mm high
10 1/4” x 1 3/4”
Finish: Oil
Very fragile turning as the wood was from a crotch of the tree.
Although all cracks seen in the photo go through, I could the bowl
turn to a wall thickness of about 4 mm (3/16“)

185
mm diameter, 152 mm high
7 1/4" x 6"
Finish: wax

it remains yellow.
